1. WHAT IS ANGLICAN AID ABROAD?
This is a
voluntary, non-profit society made up of people in Australia and
overseas who share a common concern for those in need. Members
include bishops, housewives, schoolboys, and pensioners, all united
in a common cause - the relief of need in the Name of Christ.

2. DOES A.A.A. COMPETE WITH EXISTING MISSIONARY SOCIETIES?
No! Our aim
is to relieve need and we ctually co-operate with many of the
Church's missionary bodies; our aim is co-operation , not competition.

3. HOW DOES A.A.A. THEN DIFFER FROM OTHER RELIEF BODIES?
Firstly…..by
sending all our help through existing Church structures so avoiding
the need for a costly infra-structure.
Secondly…..all those who handle our funds are committed
members of the church – usually, but not always, clergy
or members of Religious Orders.
Thirdly…..we see our work of providing material help as
a vital part of the Church's total ministry to man. For us, aid
cannot be separated from the Christian Faith which inspired it.

4. WHAT PERCENTAGE OF FUNDS COLLECTED ACTUALLY GOES TO THE NEEDY?
One hundred
percent! That is our easily-substantiated claim. Every gift we
receive goes where the donor intended – to somebody in need.

5. IF A.A.A. SENDS ALL DONATIONS OVERSEAS, HOW ARE ITS EXPENSES
MET AT HOME?
From gifts
and voluntary labour of interested people. Some people give money
expressly for the purposes of defraying expenses like postage,
cost of overseas drafts, production of newsletters and the like.
An annual
audit of our books is made by a registered person, and copies
of the financial statement are readily
available.

6. HOW IS THE MONEY SPENT OVERSEAS?
The money
is applied by people who actually live in the situation and who
are, therefore, in the best position to know where it is most
needed. They do not require any payment for this service and gladly
distribute to charitable works all the funds which they receive.

7. AM I INFORMED ABOUT WHERE MY MONEY GOES?
Four times
a year a newsletter is issued which gives the names of donors,
the amount of income for the period, and the donations sent away.
Extracts from some of the letters of thanks which we receive are
printed, and photocopies of the letters may be had on request.

8. HOW GREAT ARE THE NEEDS?
In a word, 'limitless'.
Think, for example of much of Africa.
- In
MALAWI, life expectancy for women is 37 and for men 36 because
of malnutrition and disease.
- SUDAN'S
refugees living in neighbouring countries or in scattered camps
within their nation's borders number millions.
- AIDS
is so prevalent in SOUTH AFRICA that the country could have
as many as 4,000,000 orphans in the foreseeable future.
- In
GHANA more than 40% of women, mostly in the north of the country,
cannot read or write.
- ZAMBIA
must import even basic food items.
These
facts could be replicated in any number of developing countries
around the world.

9. CAN THESE NEEDS BE MET?
Obviously not all,
nor all at once. BUT (some approximate costs)
- 25cents
can be a week's education for a child in INDIA
- 50cents
would install a brick in a new clinic in ZAMBIA
- $1.00
gives writing equipment to a school child in the SOLOMONS
- $2.00
provides breakfast for an AIDS orphans in SOUTH AFRICA
- $5.00
means some basic medicines for a health centre in HAITI
- $10.00
will buy four fruit trees for a farm in GHANA
- $20.00
enables a literacy class for women to meet in TANZANIA
- $25.00
enables a Melanesian Brother work for a week amongst 'rascals'
(young men involved in petty crime) in NEW GUINEA
- $50.00
sponsors a Brother of the Sacred Mission to do an AIDS education
presentation in LESOTHO
- $100.00
purchases seeds and simple farming equipment for refugees returning
to SUDAN
